Some people have the innate gift of making everything around them beautiful. This week’s guest RaShanna Baker has the ability to do just that. The burgeoning interior designer stops by to chat with Brandy regarding her career path, inspirations, and her goals as she continues to hone her craft. RaShanna is from Oklahoma City but is a country girl at heart. She shares with Brandy her experience attending Millwood High School and hardships faced due to colorism in the black community. She initially began college at Langston University but later transferred to the University of Central Oklahoma. She has a degree in Fashion Marketing with a minor in Business Administration. After attending college, she followed her dream of becoming a flight attendant. Brandy and RaShanna discuss what it was like for her to travel the world. While traveling and having deep self-reflection; she was inspired to take a leap of faith and pursue her passion for interior design. She is currently attending the University of Central Oklahoma and majoring in Art Entrepreneurship with an emphasis in Interior Design. She provides interior design tips she acquired from her education such as materials, context, and the importance of spacing. The newlywed is currently working on her first major design project; custom designing her dream home with her husband. She explains the intricate details of the design process and the steps she takes to ensure her home is a reflection of her and her husband’s creative style. Upon graduation, RaShanna plans to become a residential interior designer and hopes to tap into commercial interior design as well. She also has a goal of creating her own furniture line. She is currently working on a new blog entitled “Spaced Properly By Design.” The blog will focus on showcasing the behind the scenes of interior design as well as education on how to transform rooms to complement your aesthetic. RaShanna has a keen sense of style that is elegantly graceful and timeless. Her courage to boldly chase her dreams and bring her vision to life should definitely be applauded. It is inspiring to see a woman follow through with her goals with such vigor. Be on the lookout for her new blog and contact her for your interior design needs.
