Marcus Muse is an artist who never really thought of himself as one. Now he’s on the path to becoming an art teacher, Fine Arts professor, international art educator, and whatever else he manifests as his dreams continue to expand. Muse takes a moment to chat with Brandy about his life growing up in Oklahoma, how he got his start as a tattoo artist, and what he’s learned about black people across the diaspora. A love for learning has taken Muse around the world to African countries, Italy, and Costa Rica. The two discuss race being a made up concept, life on Venice Beach, and how a kid who didn’t know you could buy a professional tattoo gun made his first machine with parts from his little sister’s radio. Now his work can be found inked on Tyga, ScHoolboy Q, and counted among Floyd Mayweather’s personal gallery.
